Yep, it's increasingly about relationships, and less about "marketing" the way we think about it from TV and magazines!

Thanks for your comment!

I'm really glad to have watched this video this morning. This content shift is just occurring in the tourism and travel industries. Even though this video is already two years old, it is very timely for many business owners who still have a brochure website - and especially important for those lodges who are paying for google ad traffic to their brochure website.

Thanks for the comment, Sean!

That first point you mentioned is a very important one - figure out what you want people to do on your site, and how to measure that, and what it's worth to you.

These days there are commissioned sales people calling lists of businesses, trying to convince them to buy Google Adwords in particular, and fortunately our clients have asked us about the viability before they actually bought in. These sales people were also trying to sell the SAME KEYWORD PHRASE to each client, essentially jacking up PPC prices even further.

Some people seem to think that PPC marketing is an entry-level kind of way to get traffic online, and while I may agree it gets traffic, I don't think it's an entry-level strategy at ALL. Without a proper "net" to catch the traffic, it can be a big waste of money.

I look forward to reading your comments on future entries about tips and tricks to make your PPC marketing landing page (or QR code landing page) more effective!

My day job is largely around PPC marketing, and I use it as much as possible on my side project.

If you're willing to spend some time with it, it can be the most effective use of your time and money. You can target the audiences you want at a time that they're looking for the information. You can manage to a budget, and get results quickly.

The best advice I can give is to:

- Figure out what you want people to do on your site, how to measure that, and what it's worth to you
- Figure out what kind of people you are going to target
- Start off small and split your time between expanding your campaign and optimizing your existing keywords.
- Don't fret about, say, paying a dollar for a click. It's all about the aggregation and targeting.

Hi Jill, nice article! 2011 is going to be the year of the QR Code as more Code generators are developed for mass adoption. I recently launched www.SocialQRCode.com, it's designed for small to large sized businesses to promote their Facebook fan pages and Twitter profiles.

Please give it a try and let me know what you think! @socialqrcode on twitter!
